Today's bird is ... Brown Pelican!
The Audubon Toy One |
This brown pelican is a water's edge bird. It catches fish in the water by diving.
Look for this (from a bird book): a gull will sometimes try to steal a fish from the pelican's pouch before it can swallow.
Try this (also from the book): a brown pelican pouch can hold 11.4 liters (3 gallons) of fish and water--three times more than its stomach can hold The next time you take a bath, bring a 237 milliliter (8 ounce) plastic cup and large cooking pot into the tub. To fill a pelicans pouch you need to scoop 48 cups of bathwater into the pot. Lift it, and imagine flying.
